The film depicts the life, times and afflictions of the fifteenth-century Russian iconographer St. Andrei Rublev. Iconic artist Andrei Rublev takes a vow of silence as he is upset after he witnesses a brutal battle and refrains from painting. Later, as he tries to recover and find peace, he begins to paint again.
